Bishop Robert D. Watts is the founding Pastor of Mt. Gethsemane Holiness Church established December 3, 1995, in Huntingtown, Maryland. He was baptized in May 1957 at Bethel Way of the Cross Church in Huntingtown, Maryland, under the leadership of his pastor, the late Bishop Jacob A. Green. He received the gift of the Holy Ghost speaking with “other tongues” in accordance to Acts 2:38, four months later.
In November 1964, he held his trial sermon and was ordained as the first minister at Bethel Way of the Cross Church. He took the Elder’s test in Chicago, Illinois, in May of 1989 and was ordained an Elder in Greensboro, North Carolina, on August 18, 1989.
As an active member of Bethel Way of the Cross Church, he served as the Youth President for 18 years, on the Deacon’s Board and he started the Male Chorus. Later, the Lord led him to start a weekly community Bible class at Fairview Library in Owings and then at Mt. Hope Community Center in Sunderland.
After 38 years of worshiping and serving at Bethel Way of the Cross Church, Bishop Watts answered the call to pastor the Mt. Gethsemane Holiness Church, which was formerly the Mt. Gethsemane Baptist Church.
He was later consecrated to the office of Bishop by Bishop Charles E. Johnson at the Greater Morning Star Church in Largo, Maryland, on September 14, 2008.
As Pastor of Mt. Gethsemane Holiness Church for over 24 years, Bishop Watts continues to teach and preach the Word of God under the anointing of the Holy Ghost. He enjoys reading and teaching the Book of Revelation.
Bishop Watts and his late wife, Beulah “Betty” Holland Watts, were married 62 years. God blessed them with three daughters: Carolyn Hall, Gwendolyn Watts (deceased), and Donna Watts.
